Mask Guidance Update

Effective Friday March 4th @ 5:00 pm, masks will be optional in Coventry Public Schools facilities and on school sponsored transportation, including school buses.

Current isolation/quarantine guidelines and recommendations are still in place, according to the RI Department of Health and RI Department of Education Playbook.  Individuals who test positive need to be isolated at home for a minimum of 5 days or until symptom and fever free. It is strongly recommended that a well-fitted mask be worn in school on days 6-10.  Coventry schools will no longer do close contact tracing but will send notification of an outbreak (as defined by RIDOH) of positive COVID-19 cases. The recommendation for close contacts will include 10 days of masking, after the last day of exposure.  Coventry Public Schools will update the Health and Safety Protocols to align with the most recent guidance/recommendations and post them to the district website.

Coventry Public School students and staff will continue to abide by the guidance of private facilities/venues and other school districts when visiting.

Coventry Public Schools will promote personal responsibility and encourage students, staff, and visitors to follow the following recommendations:

  • Stay home if they have any COVID-19 symptoms, get tested and consult a healthcare provider

  • Notify the school nurse if they test positive for COVID-19

  • Follow recommended guidance.

Coventry Public Schools will continue to support RIDOH Playbook mitigation strategies such as:

  • Promote vaccination;

  • Optimize ventilation in schools and on buses;

  • Promote hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette;

  • Maintain isolation and quarantine recommendations.

  • Recommend masking for unvaccinated and/or immunocompromised individuals
