Why a Trimester Schedule?
 

In standards-based classrooms the focus is on student performance, not simply taking tests or quizzes. Just as artists use portfolios to showcase their talent, our students must be able to demonstrate their competencies through actual demonstrations, performances, and portfolios that show evidence of their learning. Sustained effort over an adequate amount of time should make it possible for all students to meet the standard. The standards remain constant; however, the time to meet them may vary from student to student. Research done early on by the Grade Reporting Committee indicated the compatibility of a trimester schedule with a standards-based report card to allow more time for students to show evidence of achieving the standard.
