5- Exceeds Student produces work beyond grade level expectations for this trimester.
For example: The student independently investigates concepts or topics beyond the standard expectation. The student produces clear, convincing, and consistent evidence of expanded knowledge or skills.
The student consistently demonstrates an exceptional level of understanding by incorporating and transferring advanced skills and complex thinking into grade level expectations.
The student is independent and self-directed in extending the learning process.
4 - Proficient Student produces work that consistently meets grade level expectations for this trimester.
For example: The student shows understanding and consistently meets the expectations of assigned tasks. The student produces evidence that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of concepts or topics.
The student successfully achieves grade level expectations.
The student regularly applies thinking skills and learning strategies.
The student consistently meets assignment requirements.
The student has learned essential content and skills that will support his/her success in other learning experiences. The Proficient (4) student can use acquired concepts and skills to accomplish new learning.
3 - Approaching Student produces work that usually meets grade level expectations for this trimester.
For example: The student nearly meets the expectations of assigned tasks and demonstrates some understanding of concepts and topics. The evidence produced by the student shows incomplete or inconsistent understanding.
The student is performing near grade level expectations.
The student is showing progress in applying thinking skills and learning strategies.
The student shows partial grasp of central concepts.
OR the student inconsistently meets assignment requirements.
2 - Developing Student produces work that sometimes meets grade level expectations for this trimester.
For example: The student does not consistently meet the expectations of assigned tasks and does not demonstrate understanding of concepts or topics. The evidence produced by the student is insufficient and/or inadequate to evaluate understanding.
The student is performing below grade level expectations.
The student is showing limited progress in applying thinking skills and learning strategies.
The student does not meet assignment requirements.
OR the student shows little interest or effort, which limits progress.
1 - Beginning / Requires Help Student produces work that seldom meets grade level expectations for this trimester.
For example: The student needs help to begin to meet the expectations of assigned tasks. With support, the student shows some understanding of concepts or topics, but does not produce evidence independently.
The student is struggling with academic and/or behavioral expectations for that grade level.
Assignment requirements are not being met independently, and the student is not demonstrating progress that will enable him/her to meet performance expectations at that grade level.
