March 12, 2008
Dear Parents:
At a meeting held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 the School Committee authorized the Coventry School Department to hold a Professional Development Day for all faculty and staff on April 8, 2008. Therefore, this letter is to serve as notification that there will be no school for children on April 8.
The faculty of Coventry High School will be involved in scoring student portfolios, a component of the new Performance Based Graduation Requirements. All other faculty and staff will be involved in activities consistent with School Improvement goals and the District Strategic Plan.
Please note that this change in the school calendar will have no effect on the scheduled last day of school. Coventry will still exceed the minimum number of days for children as specified by the Rhode Island Department of Education. The Professional Development opportunity will provide Coventry’s staff with advanced knowledge and skills that will in turn improve teaching and learning in our District.
Coventry remains committed to providing a quality educational experience for all students. An opportunity for professional growth for our staff is a sign of that commitment. Please know that your support is greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
Michael Convery James Erinakes, II
